Maintain Number Ranges for Orders

Every order master record must be uniquely identified within its client by means of an order number.

Each order is assigned to a group via its order type. Several order types can be assigned to the same range number range group with the same number interval.

There are two types of number intervals:

In internal number allocation, the system automatically allocates the next free number from the range to each new order as you create it.
In external number allocation, you must allocate the number yourself.

Standard settings

The standard SAP System includes ten predefined order types and one model order type.

Requirements

To maintain number ranges for orders, you must have authorization for the number range object AUFTRAG. The system checks this in the authorization object S_Number.

Activities

1. Check whether the number ranges delivered meet your requirements.
2. Change or delete the delivered number ranges as necessary.
Choose Maintain groups.
3. Maintain the number ranges for your order types.
4. Maintain the intervals for your order types.
5. Assign each order type to a number range group.

Notes on tranport

You transport number range objects as follows:

In the initial screen, choose Interval -> Transport.

Note that all intervals for the selected number range object are deleted in the target system first. After the import, only the intervals you export are present. The number statuses are imported with their values at the time of export.

Dependent tables are not transported or converted.
