Classification: Different Object Types in One Class
Type
Description
In Release 3.0, you can also classify different object types within one
class type. Before you can do this, the relevant settings must be made in the
Implementation Guide Classes . There, you define that objects
of various object types can be classified in one class type, and specify these
object types. Once you have saved this setting, you can no longer change
it.
In the standard version of the system, this setting has already be made for
class type 022. In this class, you can classify both batches and materials.
These object types even have a hierarchical relationship within this class
type. The object hierarchy has been set up via the field Sort
item . This makes it possible for materials to pass down their
values to sudordinate batches. The materials in this case have a class node
function. The passing down of values from materials to batches ensures that
the batch values are consistent with the characteristic values of the material
handled in batches.
However, you cannot build up an object hierarchy simply by making settings
in the IMG for classification. Changes in the system are required as well. For
this reason, you cannot build up your own object hierarchies at present.
In the find object and classification functions, you have various options
or influencing the display of the object types:
- Using the function Extras -> Set object type
on the classification overview screen, you can determine the object types that
are to be displayed. For example, you can define that materials are not to be
displayed.
- On the search result screen, you can specify whether the object type of
objects are to be displayed. To do this, choose the function View
-> Display options....
- Additional characteristics (reference characteristics) can be displayed
for the individual object types in the find object function. These
characteristics are not allocated to the class in which classification is to
be carried out. They exist as additional characteristics for an object. On the
value assignment screen of the find object function, you can display and
select the additional characteristics for an object type via the function
Extras -> Add. characts... .
- On the search result screen, you can use the functions
Environment -> Define function... and List
functions to process the search result. For classes with several
object types, you select these functions according to the object type.
- Please note that not all object types can be classified using the global
allocation functions in the classification system. To ensure that
classification is consistent, it is sometimes useful to specify that objects
can only be classified from the object master record. For example, class type
022 contains settings that determine that batches can only be classified in
master record maintenance. For this reason, you cannot select batches as an
object type when using the function Allocation in
the classification menu.
Change system parameters in customizing
The settings in Customizing that are required if you want to classify
objects of various object types in one class type must be made in the IMG
Classification in the following step:
