Assign characteristics to process message categories

In this processing step, you assign message characteristics to process message categories. In addition to this, you specify whether a value can or has to be assigned to a characteristic in messages of the individual categories.

You can assign any number of characteristics to a message category. Every characteristic can be used only once in a message category.

When you create a message within process management, the characteristics of the corresponding message category are offered for maintenance. Incoming messages are checked against the settings made here.

Standard Settings

In the standard R/3 System, characteristics are assigned to the message categories predefined by SAP. You can assign further characteristics.

Activities

1. Select the message category to which you want to assign characteristics.

2. Go to the screen Characteristics/message cat.

3. To assign characteristics, choose New entries.

4. Enter the names of the characteristics you want to assign and specify whether a value must be assigned to them in messages of the selected category.

5. Save your settings.
