As of Release 4.6C, all countries can use the archiving function for payroll data (transaction PU22). You can use this transaction to store payroll results, time evaluation results, and trip data on external storage media, and to then delete the data from your database.
Some countries are provided with special country versions that take account of country-specific requirements when payroll data is archived. If these country versions are implemented, the system prevents you from entering an archiving date that contradicts the current statutory regulations, for example.
The general regulations on archiving dates and retroactive accounting limits apply to all other countries.

Archiving payroll results enables you to reduce the amount of data stored in PCL2 considerably. Country-specific regulations determine how much payroll data can be archived.
Archiving payroll data does not require you to enter specific settings in Customizing for Payroll . When you execute the transaction, the system guides you through all of the required steps and ensures that you enter all of the settings (archiving date, retroactive accounting limit, etc.) correctly. When you specify the country for which payroll data must be archived, the system automatically uses the correct country version. If a country version does not exist, the system uses a general version that applies to all other countries.
