R/2-R/3 Link

Implementation Options

All the shipping functions are at your disposal if you are implementing your own R/3 Shipping Module in combination with an external system. Data is automatically transferred between the R/2 system in which sales processing and billing take place and the R/3 Decentralized Shipping module. In this way, you can make use of both existing systems and new shipping functions.

It may also be helpful to use the R/2-R/3 link outside of the Sales and Distribution processing environment in the following situations:

Range of Functions

In the central R/2 Sales and Distribution system, you create sales orders and then create deliveries with reference to those orders. At this point, an availability check and delivery scheduling is carried out. When printing is initiated, the delivery data is transferred using CPI-C (interface to enable communication between different programs) to the R/3 Shipping System.

The R/3 Shipping System creates deliveries without an order reference using the delivery data it receives in the form of communication documents. After the deliveries have been processed, the transfer of delivery data back to the central R/2 sales and distribution system is initiated by a pro forma goods issue posting.

In the central R/2 Sales and Distribution system, the goods issue posting and billing are now executed for the deliveries it has received.

The goods issue posting in the R/3 Shipping System serves to initiate the transfer of delivery data back to the central sales and distribution system. The actual goods issue posting that passes the data on to Materials Management is carried out by the central R/2 Sales and Distribution system once the delivery data becomes available there.

The following figure illustrates the procedure in the R/2-R/3 link from the point of view of the central R/2 Sales and Distribution system and the decentralized R/3 Shipping system.
