Purchasing: Message Determination; Fine-Tuned Control and New Message Determination Facility for Change Notices
Description
Up to Release 2.2, the message type for new printouts provided in the SAP standard system is copied for change notices. In the process, message types that do not correspond to the standard system may not be taken into account.
Release 3.0 provides you with two new options to change this:
- Fine-tuned control of existing process
This enables you to control the printout of changes more precisely.
Advantage:
The fine-tuned control of the existing process is less time-consuming than a
new message determination process.
- New message determination process
You can now initiate a new message determination process, taking all message types completely into account, in the case of document changes too.
Advantage:
With the new message determination process, changes involving message master
data (for example, a new printer destination) are also taken into account.
Change system parameters in customizing
This section outlines the procedure in Customizing for both options.
Fine-tuned control of existing process
With the existing process, the indicator "New message determination" is not
set.
In a new table (Fine-Tuned Message Control in Purchasing), you can specify
which message types are defined in your system for the various print
operations, e.g. for new printouts, change notices, or
reminders/expediters.
When a purchasing document is changed, the message types for new printouts of the relevant document are copied and checked against the settings from the table "Fine-tuned control".
Examples of table entries under the existing procedure:

This means that only those message types are found for change notices that are also defined as message types for new printouts.
New message determination
If you set the new indicator "New message determ." in the function "Assign message determination schemas to applications", a new message determination process will be initiated when a purchasing document is changed. Here too, the message types found are suggested taking the new table into account.
In the process, those message types are that are not specified for new printouts but only for change notices are also taken into account.
A precondition for this is that the indicator "Multiple transmission" has been set on the detail screen for the message type.

With this setting, the message types "new", "fax", and "mail" are suggested for change notices.
New fields in the case of new message determination
The fields "Program change messages" and "FORM routine" are now used.
- Up to Release 2.2:
The system checks whether a processed message already exists. If so, it is copied and entered as a new message with a change indicator.
- As of Release 3.0:
If the indicator "New message determination" has been set, in the standard SAP system the change indicator from the FORM routine CHANGE_FLAG is set in program FM06AEND.
The above-mentioned, previously unused fields are used for this purpose. They are located in the area "Change messages" of the relevant message type.
Options:
- You can continue working with the standard 3.0 SAP System as
previously.
(The field "Program change" contains the program 'FM06AEND', and the field "FORM routine" contains the routine 'CHANGE_FLAG'.)
- You can leave the field 'FORM routine' empty.
This has the effect that generally no change indicator will be set for a message type.
- You have the option of using your own routines.
