Creating Serial Numbers Automatically at Goods Receipt 

Use

In the previous process step, you tried to post the goods receipt of the pump to the warehouse. The system informed you that pumps of construction type P-1001 must have serial numbers, and that you have not yet entered these serial numbers. In this process step, you can use the R/3 System to automatically create serial numbers.

Procedure

  1. On the Goods Receipt Purchase Order <Your Name> screen, choose the Serial nos tab page.
  1. Select Create serial nos automatically.

The system automatically assigns serial numbers for parts to be placed in storage.

It is also possible to assign serial numbers externally as an alternative to accepting suggested values.
  1. To post the goods receipt, choose Post.

    2. You can view serial numbers that have been created in the dialog window. A later process step allows you to manually display the serial numbers once again.

    3. Return to the Goods Receipt Purchase Order <Your Name> screen to enter the next goods receipt.

Result

The ordered pump has now been posted in the material warehouse. The system creates the serial numbers automatically. In addition, the system automatically creates an equipment master record in the background for each serial number, which can then be used for maintenance processing.
