Exceptions in the Workflow Definition

In a workflow definition, the possible object method exceptions are offered for selection as subsequent events of the step. You can model subsequent steps with respect to the exception occurring.

You do not have to incorporate any of the exceptions into the modeling.

The system behaves as shown in the table below if an exception occurs at runtime:

In the workflow definition...

The exception is defined for the object method as a ...

temporary error

application error or system error

a subsequent step is modeled for the exception.

The step has status completed and the modeled subsequent step is executed.

no subsequent step is modeled for the exception

The step is not yet completed. The associated work item retains the status in process and can be started again by its agent.

Workflow and work item assume the error status.

This table only applies to dialog work items that a user can access via their Business Workplace.

For background work items the workflow system deals with the error handing. For further information, refer to Error Handling for Background Work Items.
