Automatic Creation of Equipment Master Records 

Use

You can assign equipment and functional locations to assets by entering the asset number in their master record. This function is unchanged. Several equipment master records can be assigned to one asset, but each equipment master record can be assigned to only one asset.

Now, you can guarantee the integration of the Asset Accounting (FI-AA) and Plant Management (PM) components by means of synchronized creation and changing of equipment and asset master records.

You can set up a process so that the system automatically creates an equipment master record when you create an asset. Certain master data is then copied from the asset master record to the equipment master record (such as company code).

If changes are later made to the asset master record, the system automatically makes these same changes in the fields of the equipment master record.

You can also set up a workflow, either as an alternative to, or in addition to, the above. The workflow could, for example, inform a contact person in Plant Maintenance when an asset is created or changed.

The system determines the equipment category based on the asset class.

On the other hand, you can start the process from the equipment. Then when an equipment master record is created, an asset master record is automatically created, or the asset master record is updated to reflect any changes in an equipment master record.

Effects on Customizing

You set up the workflow in Customizing for Asset Accounting. Choose Master Data -> Automatic Creation of Equipment Master Records.
