New Tool Data Modeler Replaces Previous Tool Information Model

Description

Until Release 3.0, the Information Model tool was used to display the data models supplied by SAP (Financial Accounting, Materials Management, and so on). As of Release 3.0, there is now a new tool, the Data Modeler, which allows you to both display and maintain data models. Using this, you can display and maintain all SAP data models, and also the customer-specific data models or additions to the models supplied by SAP.

The Data Modeler is fully integrated into the ABAP/4 Development Workbench. Amongst other things, it is connected to the Object Browser, the Repository Information System and the Workbench Organizer.

The creation of a hierarchical model with any number of hierarchy levels and the reuse of submodels is now possible with the Data Modeler. Models can be expanded and compressed both in a hierarchy list and in a graphical display. In particular, this simplifies the handling of large models. It is also possible to separately indicate business objects and to establish the reference to the model architecture.

Please refer to the documentation for the Data Modeler for a detailed description of the tool.

Changes to the interface

You can access the Data Modeler by selecting Tools -> ABAP/4 Workbench -> Development -> Data Modeler or by entering transaction code SD11. You can call the previous Information Model tool by selecting Goto -> Tool (pre 3.0). However, it only makes sense to use this tool if you have previously acquired data models from SAP.
