We recommend that you use AUTOMATIC BACKUP OF YOUR LOGICAL-LOG FILES
using the scripts which we offer.
With Informix 7.1, a number of new scripts are offered to help you in
the problem area of logical log backups with ON-Archive:
- arcprep allows you to define a number of default volume sets
and volumes on tape
- arcvolum allows you to define additional volumes for an existing
volume set
- logevent.sh runs in the background and detects when the logical
log has reached the predefined level
- arcauto performs the backup of the logical-log files at
predefined times
- arcpanic is used for emergency backup of the logical-log files
ie. when the logical log has completely filled up and the
database has suspended processing.
The situation is very similar with Informix 6.1 except that:
- arcevent replaces logevent.sh but it only detects when the
logical log has reached the predefined level (it does not
actually carry out the backup)
- arcauto is called by arcevent when the logical log has reached
the predefined level. It then carries out the backup.
Refer to the configuration information "ON-Archive in the SAP
Environment" to make sure these are properly installed.
