Creating a BOM for a Printer

Use

You activate this option if you want to output the BOM to a Windows printer.

Procedure

In the AutoCAD Maskfiles list, the default mask file (print template) is GEN_POS (for an itemized BOM) and GEN_SUM (for a summarized BOM). The print template files have the extension *WSK.

If you wish, you can also specify the name of a user-defined template. This will also appear in the list if you store it in the appropriate subdirectory.

Order Forms for Specific Standard Part Vendors

Some manufacturers supply their own template files, which you can use as order forms. If you want to do this, you must enter the vendor key as an attribute in the info points or item numbers. If you activate this option, you will be able to output a separate BOM containing all the parts with the vendor key in question – all other parts will be processed in the AutoCAD BOM.

The template file selected (e.g. GEN_POS) is the form used for all data (info points/item numbers) that does not have the vendor key in question as an attribute. The vendor key in the info point is usually derived from the standard part. The vendor keys used in the AutoCAD model lists (01-SKF, 03-Gutekunst, 04-Spec) are contained in the AutoCAD standard parts database. You can, however, enter values of your own in the standard parts.

You can only use vendor order lists that are defined in Gen@PaList@Suppliermasks in the AutoCAD configuration settings. This entry also contains descriptions of the order forms.

How this works: the data records are filtered for each of the vendor keys contained in the configuration settings, and output to the appropriate template file. All other data is written to the default file template selected.

Example: you have inserted 5 SKV ball bearings, 3 Gutekunst springs, and 10 ISO screws in your drawing.

If the standard AutoCAD installation is used and the template GEN_SUM is selected, this will result in:

In the configuration settings, BOM templates for SKF, SPEC and Gutekunst are currently available. It is also possible to define an entry for a manufacturer in the configuration settings, and to define corresponding templates for this entry.

Receiving Metafiles

If you activate this option, metafiles will be stored in the system. These files can be used by other programs. You can enter the file name of the metafiles in the text input field. Metafiles have the extension *.000. If you create several metafiles, the extension of each new metafile will be increased by an increment of 1 (i.e. *.001, *.002,..).

Theoretically, the name of the drawing can be different from the name of the BOM, and the name of the BOM different from the name of the metafile. However, it makes sense to give the drawing, the *.TXT BOM file, and the *.000 metafile the same name. This will enable you to find the files more quickly, and organize them better.
