Detailed Definition of Interfaces
Task Notes
- Create a detailed design for each interface.
This
includes:
- Considering, and if appropriate adding to, the
interface definition work held in the Shared -> 6.INTERFACES folder. This
folder contains the outcome of work you did in the
Define interfaces and enhancements activity that forms part of
the Define functions and processes work package;
- Defining what data will be released/transferred at what time;
- Defining the lead (controlling) system for each interface (which system sends data, which system receives data);
- Creating alternative interface definitions and submit them for decision.
- Deciding which interfaces will be operated manually;
- Describing any reconfiguration necessary in the other applications;
- Documenting the specifications for your interfaces in the Shared -> 6.INTERFACES folder
- Determine the effort and expense to create your interfaces.
- Have interface designs approved
Additional information
If you intend to link an external application
system
(say, a CAD or plant data collection system) with your R/3 system, the
detailed interface descriptions can also be used to decide which software
product to choose. Find out about any standardized interfaces certified by SAP
that may be available.
If you are planning extensive interfaces and
want to manage their creation, you can add suitable project activities to the
R/3 Procedure Model. They should be inserted into Phase 2: Detailed design and
system set-up, as subnodes of the corresponding activities in the
Create interfaces and enhancements work package.
