In addition to the drill-down according to characteristics, it is possible
to perform a drill-down with regard to an existing hierarchy.
In the case of a drill-down according to hierarchy, a characteristic value
with regard to a hierarchy is detailed.
Example from the Purchasing Information System: the vendor Müller KG is
drilled down according to material classes. The drill-down list shows the
material class hierarchy of materials obtained from the vendor Müller KG.
Depending on information system and chosen analysis, you can drill down according to different hierarchies (for example, Sales Information System: customer hierarchy, customer classification, product hierarchy, material classes, product groups; Shop Floor Information System: work center hierarchy, material class; Purchasing Information System: vendor class, product groups, material classes and so on).
Basically, a drill down can be performed according to the most important hierarchies for characteristics of the information structure which form the basis of the analysis. Per analysis path, you can only perform a drill-down according to one hierarchy. A hierarchy drill-down can only be carried out if a drill-down was not carried out according to the characteristic on which the hierarchy is based (for example, if you have already performed a characteristic drill-down according to material, you cannot perform a drill-down according to the existing hierarchies for the material (for example, material class, product group)).
