The overall functionality of the SAP System is divided into three levels (see Levels in the SAP System). Each of these levels has a special menu structure.

The application level is the second level of the three-level system hierarchy.

The R/3 System is set up such that after the user logs on, the system goes to the main menu level. The user may define to go directly to the first screen of an application by specifying the name of the corresponding menu in the user master record.
