Hierarchical-Sequential Lists

Below, only the differences with one-line lists are described.

Substructure

Two cases are distinguished:

  1. The hierarchy information only consist of few criteria and key figures (orientation value: 4 criteria; transparency and storage requirement are the decisive factors).
  2. The hierarchy information consist of a number of criteria and key figures.

Case 1: The hierarchy information is displayed just like object information, that is, field name, field value and, if necessary, explanatory text.

Case 2: The hierarchy information is displayed as normal line information. The descriptions of the criteria and the key figures then form a separate header line which is displayed above the normal header line.

Marking the Global List Structure

Color

The hierarchy information creates the vertical global structure of the list. It is therefore highlighted in color.

Lines

Groups are separated from each other by horizontal lines.

Recommendation

If you know beforehand that particular criteria do not vary, you should extract them from the list and place them in the header information or the hierarchy information. This makes the list more compact and the display clearer.
