Guidelines for the Various Levels

To access a particular task in the R/3 System, the user has to navigate through the system hierarchy. The titles of the various screens can help to make this hierarchy transparent. The title should contain the name of the various system levels.

The following section specifies the screen titles (if only one screen exists on a particular level) and/or provide design guidelines and examples (if several screens exist on a level) which you can use to identify the various levels of the system hierarchy (see Levels in the SAP System).

Conventions

As far as the syntax of the following design guidelines is concerned: Variable terms which must be replaced by a full identification appear in angle brackets. Expressions in square brackets are optional. After "Title:", examples are in quotes.

Main Menu Level

Title: SAP R/3

Application Level

Syntax: <current menu option>

Title: Accounts Payable

Inventory management

You can also create the title of the screen from the concatenation of the higher-level menu option and the last chosen menu option. This, however, is only allowed where it helps to avoid ambiguities.

Syntax: <higher-level menu option> - <current menu option>

Title: Customizing - Extended General Ledger G/L

Task Level

The title bar used to identify a task consists of three components:

In an editor, this would be the file name; for a posting document, for example, "document number 25".

If the current screen is reached from the previous system status by choosing a menu option or activating a pushbutton, the <screen> can also be created directly from the name of the menu option or the pushbutton text. You can also specify the path which brought the user to the current screen (in the form <screen-2>-<screen-1>-<screen>).

Syntax: <Act> <ObjCl>[: <Screen>[ <Obj>]]

or <Act> <ObjCl>: [<screen-2>-][<screen-1->]<screen>

Title:

number 1674

When naming reports , you must be aware that the user generally calls the report by choosing a corresponding menu option. The name of the menu option should be the same as the title of the report, if possible. They should at least contain the same word components.

Syntax: <ObjCl>: <screen>

Title: Document compact journal: Result

Profitability Analysis: Selection

The title bar of a report must be distinguished from any list headers which are located within the work area above the report listing. In the R/3 System, the title bar is always located above the menu bar (an orientation for the user).
