General Layout Guidelines

Dialog boxes contain the following elements:

A title bar must be defined in dialog boxes according to the title bar design guidelines (see Title Bar).

A diagnosis text might be displayed in the dialog box, explaining why the following question is asked.

A question refers to the action previously performed, the possible loss of data, or the diagnosis text.

The "Yes" and "No" responses are displayed as two pushbuttons (exception: see Decision Between Two Related Alternatives in this keyword section). The "Yes" response should be presented first.

The cursor is generally placed on the non-destructive option.

The user responds to the question posed in the dialog box by moving the cursor with the TAB key to the desired option and then pressing ENTER ( or by double-clicking on the desired option). It can also be chosen by means of a single mouse click.

The Cancel pushbutton is also displayed. It is positioned to the right of the response buttons.

Blank lines between the individual elements of the dialog boxes are set automatically by the system prompt function modules.

Using Icons in Dialog Boxes with Confirmation Prompts

The standard function modules relating to confirmation prompts are automatically assigned to the corresponding icon:

Popup_to_confirm_loss_of_data

This confirmation prompt is displayed when the user executes the Cancel function. The prompt is assigned an exclamation mark icon to indicate that data may be lost.

All other prompts

All other prompts are assigned an question mark icon to indicate that the user has to make a decision.

If you design your own prompts, place the corresponding icon to the left of the prompt text (centered vertically).
