Choose and Generate Characteristics

You only need to process this step if you want to use classification for order selection or summarization. Because the reference characteristics correspond to a large extent to the master data fields used for order selection and for the definition of summarization hierarchies, you only need to select reference characteristics if you want to summarize characteristics that are not available for order selection or for the definition of summarization hierarchies.

Example:

Suppose you want to use the fields "Material group" and "Division" as selection criteria in order selection. These are not available in order selection (without classification). You select the fields "Material group" and "Division" from the list of available reference characteristics, and generate them. You can then use these fields as selection criteria for order selection.

If you want to user classification for order selection or order summarization, proceed as follows.

Choose the reference characteristics that you want to use as classification characteristics, and generate the selected characteristics. The first time the characteristics are generated, the class SAP_KKR_CLASS (objects: CO objects; class type: 013) is created, and the generated characteristics are automatically assigned to this class. They can then be used for order selection and order summarization.

When you create an order, the system classifies it. This automatically updates a characteristic value for each generated reference characteristic.

Requirements

Before you can use classification for orders, an indicator must be set in the order type to allow classification for orders of this order type.

Note

Classification is not possible for sales orders in the SD component.

Recommendation

You can achieve preformance improvements if you only generate the characteristics that you want to use later in order selection and summarization. If you want to use further reference characteristics later, you can select these characteristics and start a revaluation run.

Actions

1. The standard system contains a number of characteristics as characteristics to be generated. Check whether these characteristics meet your requirements.
2. Choose any additional reference characteristics that you want to use.
3. Delete any marked reference characteristics that you don't need.
4. Generate the reference characteristics. If there are already orders for the same class in your system, a revaluation run is necessary.
5. If you want to execute the job in the background, release the job for the revaluation run (System -> Services -> Jobs -> Job overview)

Further Notes

The characteristic "controlling area" must be generated and must not be deleted.

The colors in the list show whether the characteristic has already been generated. There are the following possibilities:

This status is usually set when you have copied data from another client. You must generate this characteristic.
For these characteristics, characteristic values (such as the order number or the name of the user) are updated to the order. You can use this information to select and summarize the orders later.
No characteristic values are updated to the order for these characteristics. If you want to generate the characteristic values for these characteristics at a later time, you must generate the characteristics. If orders are already present in the class, a rvaluation run is scheduled which you must release as a job. A revaluation run can also be scheduled with Edit -> Revaluation Run.
When you generate the characteristics, the system schedules a revaluation run as a job. You must start this job. In the revaluation run, characteristic values for the characteristic are updated in orders that are present in the system.
You have selected the Delete characteristic indicator. This means that the system scheduled a revaluation run that will cancel all values for this characteristic. However, this job has not yet finished or you still have to start it.
An error has occurred. You must generate the characteristic again. Generating the characteristic again assigns it to class SAP_KKR_CLASS.

Transports

If you have already generated the characteristics for classification in the source client, a client copy achieves the following:

If you make changes in the source client later, the reference characteristics in the target client are marked for generation using transport requests through the interface to the transport system.
