New Function for Maintaining System Profiles

Description

Via a new maintenance function, you can now manage and maintain system and start-up profiles in the SAP System. The new function offers a better error protection when setting profiles as well as more convenience for the profile maintenance. You can call the function via Tools -> Administration -> Computing Center -> Management System -> Configuration -> Profile Maintenance (transaction RZ10).

The new maintenance is based on the fact that the profile data is stored in the database of the SAP System instead of only in the profile files. Make your adjustments and settings of the profiles in the SAP System. If a profile is completed, activate the profile file which is necessary for starting an application server from the profile data in the database. You can also import existing profiles into the SAP System.

The new maintenance function divides the profile maintenance into one administration function and two editing functions. The new function also offers a version management and a detailed consistency check and error check for the profile maintenance.

With the administration function, you determine name and target directory of a start-up profile or system profile. You also determine the SAP server which is used for the profile validation. It is important for the correct validation of platform-specific values.

The two processing modes are:

This "express maintenance" protects the most profile parameters that are usually not to be changed against possible incorrect settings.

The consistency check warns about the following types of errors:

The validation gives warnings in two levels: "yellow" messages for deviating but uncritical values; "red" messages for errors and incorrect settings of critical parameters.

The version management records all profile changes. If required, you can also reactivate an older version in the system.
