More User-Friendly Function to Maintain Instances and Operation Modes

Description

Via Tools -> Administration -> Computing Center -> Management System -> Configuration -> Op Modes/Servers ( RZ04), you can now start a new more user-friendly maintenance function for instances and operation modes.

The new maintenance function integrates the maintenance of operation modes, instances (SAP application servers) and start-up and system profiles and offers a better error protection through structured lists and detailed consistency checks.

If you create a new operation mode, you can proceed according to the "top down" model, for example:

• From the operation mode instance overview, you can include all existing instances in one go in the new operation mode.

• If new instances were to be added to the new operation mode, you can also create them from the operation mode maintenance screen. If necessary, you can also maintain existing instances and adjust their attributes to the new operation mode (such as the distribution of work processes).

• If you require a new or changed instance profile for an instance, the new profile maintenance function is also available from the operation mode maintenance screen.

• If the new operation mode is completed, you can branch to the OP mode timetable maintenance (time schedule for changing the operation modes) to schedule the operation mode in the system.

Error protection: The views Instances/OP modes and Instances/Profiles give a clear list of assingments of instances to operation modes and the use of instance profiles. From these views, you can execute a consistency check which finds problems such as the following:

• different number of work processes in an instance for different operation modes

• missing services such as no assignment of work processes for the "update" service

• unallowed changes when changing the operation mode, for example, moving the "spool format" service.

From these displays, you can also create or maintain instances and branch to the profile maintenance. With the functions Based on act. status -> Existing instances and New instances, you can update the list of active instances and its attributes.
