Detail information on time-dependent generation of hierarchies

You have defined your organizational structure within enterprise organization. Since all enterprise organization objects (organizational elements, links between the organizational elements) are time-dependent, you can define your enterprise organization per specific day.

Caution

If you have activated the enterprise organization in a controlling area, you can no longer carry out group maintenance for the standard hierarchy of cost centers or profit centers.

For more information, see:

At any given time, you can generate an alternative hierarchy or a new standard hierarchy from the enterprise organization.

From this validity period, the system determines which objects are contained in the relevant hierarchy.
The system determines the current fiscal year from the key date.
In Customizing, you specify how many fiscal years are to be taken into account in the past and present (starting from the current fiscal year).
Example
Assume the key date is 10/15/1999. In Customizing, you specified
that the hierarchy is valid for
From the
fiscal year variant, the system determines that the key date lies in fiscal year 2000. The interval is then from 1999 to 2002, meaning the validity period runs from the first day of fiscal year 1999 to the last day of fiscal year 2002.
If, in Customizing, you selected all fiscal years to be valid in both the past and future, the system takes the maximum period, from 1/1/1900 to 12/31/9999.
If there are several valid objects, selection takes place in the following sequence:
a) Organizational element/link
b) The organizational element/link in the future closest to the key date
c) The organizational element/link in the past closest to the key date
In this process, the validity period serves as the check on completeness. The generated hierarchy is complete if it contains every cost center or profit center that lies within the validity period.
