New Interpretation of the Basic Dates of the Planning Calendar: Delivery Dates

Description

By using the planning calendar, it is possible to define period lengths of your choice. These periods are used to group lot sizes together. Moreover, several period lot sizes also exist that are based on the Gregorian calendar (week, month, and so on).

Until now, only the following procedure existed: the order proposal for the period lot size is scheduled in such a way that the availability date is set to the first requirements date or to the beginning of the planning calendar period; the material must be available by this date. Starting from this availability date, the system schedules backwards and subtracts the goods receipt processing time to determine the delivery date or the order finish date for the order proposal. Then, from the order finish date, the system subtracts the planned delivery time or the in-house processing time to determine the order start date or the release date. The requirements are grouped together in the period that lies between the period start and the period end.

New in 3.0

In 3.0, the system interprets the period start as the delivery date. Starting from this delivery date, the system subtracts the delivery time to determine the release date and then it adds on the goods receipt processing time to determine the availability date. That is, the availability date is displaced by the goods receipt processing time. For this reason, the grouping of requirements is also displaced accordingly to guarantee that materials are available on time to cover all requirements. To do this, the requirements are not stricktly grouped together within the determined period length but within the availability dates resulting from the displacement of the goods receipt processing time.

Example for the availability date

The planned delivery time has been set to 3 days and the goods receipt processing time to two days. The first planning calendar period starts on Tuesday 01.03. and ends on Monday 14.03, and the second planning calendar period starts on Tuesday 15.03. and ends on Monday 28.03. This means that delivery takes place every 14 days on Tuesday. The planned delivery time here means that you have to inform the vendor of the required quantity at least 3 days before the delivery date.
In the first period, two requirements are scheduled:
Requirement 1 on the 03.03 for 100 pieces.
Requirement 2 on the 08.03 for 70 pieces.

In the second period, a further two requirements are scheduled:
Requirement 1 on the 14.03 for 150 pieces.
Requirement 2 on the 16.03 for 90 pieces.

Using the present logic (availability date set to period start), all requirements are grouped together in period 1 and the system creates an order proposal for the beginning of the period, that is, for the 01.03. The availability date of this order proposal is the 01.03. due to the interpretation of the period's basic dates. From this date, the system schedules backwards - first the goods receipt processing time is subtracted resulting in the delivery date 28.02. A further 3 days are subtracted for the planned delivery time determining the release date of the 24.02. The requirements are grouped together exactly between the

period's basic dates producing a lot for 170 piecces for the 01.03. and a lot for 240 pieces for the 15.03.

Delivery date example:

The following situation arises for the example above - for the first period, the delivery date is the 01.03. For the second period, the delivery date is the 15.03. This means that including the goods receipt processing time, the requirement of the 15.03 can no longer be covered completely on time as the availability date of the order proposal in the second period falls on the 17.02. Therefore, the requirement on 15.03. must be added to the period lot with delivery date 01.03. This now means that for the first period, three requirements are grouped together: the requirement of the 03.03., of the 08.03., and of the 15.03., amounting to 320 pieces. The order proposal of the 15.03. is created for 90 pieces.

Change system parameters in customizing

The indicator is entered for the lot-sizing procedure, "period lot size according to planning calendar". This indicator cannot be used for scheduling and for the interpretation of the planning calendar periods as delivery dates at the same time.
