Checking or Writing Business Object Documentation

Procedure

Ascertain whether the business object and its key fields have been documented. You can do this by selecting the Documentation tab in the BAPI Explorer, or directly in the BOR as follows:

  1. Call transaction SWO3, and navigate to the business object either via the application hierarchy, or by choosing Edit ® Search. In the next screen, enter the name of the business object (for example, "Employee"). If you cannot find your BAPI in transaction SWO3, use transaction SWO1 and enter the technical name of the business object.
  1. Open the business object, and choose the i button. If documentation on the business object exists, it will be displayed.
  1. Expand the node Key fields, and position the cursor on a key field.
  1. Choose the i button. The documentation on the key field (data element documentation) will be displayed, if it exists.

If there is no existing documentation for a business object, you must write it using transaction SW01. To write the documentation, when the business object is displayed, choose Display <-> Change, and then choose Goto ® Documentation.

Discuss with your data modeler the exact definition of the business object.

Business objects are objects in the SAP information environment and must be documented in accordance with the standard guidelines on object documentation.

For an example, see Business Object Documentation.

Writing Key Field Documentation

If there is no documentation on a key field, document it as data element documentation. This is described in Data Element Documentation.
