Up to Release 4.5, you could only activate the first stock-relevant inspection type if no inspection stock existed for a plant material. If the functions for inventory management were already implemented before QM was activated, you first had to remove the existing materials from inspection stock manually, before you could activate the inspection type.
As of Release 4.6A, you can activate an inspection type even if materials are already in inspection stock. Since the inspection stock must always be managed by inspection lots when QM is active, the system creates stock-relevant inspection lots to manage the exact quantity of goods in inspection stock when you activate the first stock-relevant inspection type. The inspection type for which the system creates inspection lots is stored in the plant-dependent settings in Customizing. You can only specify inspection types for inspection lot origin 08 (stock transfer) in Customizing. Also, you can only enter inspection types for which the indicator "Post to insp. stock" is set and a quality score procedure is specified in the default values for the inspection type (also in QM Customizing). The required parameters for processing the inspection (for example, whether the inspection should be performed with or without a task list) are also copied from the default settings for the inspection type.
SAP supplies inspection type 0800 for this purpose. This inspection type calls for a simple inspection without the use of a task list or material specification. Therefore, you do not have to record inspection results for the inspection lots that are created by the system.
This function is only supported when you process inspection settings using transaction QA08 (mass changes to inspection settings for materials). To use this function, you must set the "Activate desp. insp. stock" indicator on the initial screen of transaction QA08. If you choose the option "Activate insp. type" or "Mass processing," the system generates a list of the created inspection lots.
This function is not supported in the transactions for maintaining the material master.
Examples
Two batches have been created for a batch material. Five liters of batch 1 and 10 liters of batch 2 are currently in inspection stock. When you activate inspection type 01 (which is assigned to inspection lot origin 01), the system creates two inspection lots for inspection type 0800. The first inspection lot for batch 1 has an inspection lot quantity of 5 liters and the second inspection lot for batch 2 has an inspection lot quantity of 10 liters.
Create an inspection type for inspection lot origin 08 and then maintain the default values. Make sure you specify a quality score procedure and set the "Post to insp. stock" indicator.
Assign the inspection type to the applicable plants in QM Customizing. SAP supplies inspection type 0800 as an example for this purpose.
