Ratios
Use
The
automatic planning method Ratios lets you valuate a quantity plan automatically using reference prices.
Note that you have to call up the planning method for the target planning package in which the valuated data is to be set.
A typical scenario could resemble the following:
- First you copy actual data or a plan version from the previous year to a reference version that you want to use as the basis for valuating your plan quantities.
- Then you modify this reference version using the manual and automatic planning functions until you get the desired plan prices for the coming year.
These prices are now available as an alternative to the pricing conditions from Sales and Distribution (SD) for changing and simulating planning data.
Technically, this plan version contains quantities and values from which the system dynamically calculates ratios (prices) at a given planning level. You determine which planning level the prices should be calculated on by specifying access characteristics for the individual ratios. That way you can calculate average prices at a summarized level, such as product groups. See also
Example: Valuation of Quantity Plans Using Ratios. You enter access-level characteristics when you define ratios in Customizing.
- Now you can use these prices to valuate the quantities in your sales plan.
- Finally, you can use these separate plan versions to simulate price and quantity changes independently of one another.

If your reference version contains different prices in the different periods, the system always calculates a weighted average and uses this to valuate your plan quantities.
Prerequisites
To valuate your plan quantities using ratios, you first need to define the required ratios and a ratio scheme in Customizing for Profitability Analysis. You do this under Planning ®
Planning Aids ®
Define Ratios and Ratio Schemes. Assign these ratios to the ratio scheme in the desired order, and define access characteristics.
Activities
Plan your quantities for a product or group of products.
You valuate this quantity plan with the ratios for the reference version using the Ratios planning method.
Selection options
In the parameter set, you can specify the following:
- Specify which ratio scheme is to be used to valuate the quantity plan.
- You specify the time frame for the reference data that is to be used as the basis for executing the planning method. There are two ways of doing this:
- On the one hand, you can have the system automatically determine periods that fall before (or after) the periods at the planning level or those in the planning package. Under Period closing, you enter the number of periods that the system should count back. (If the reference data is to fall in the future, enter a figure with the negative sign.) You can display the current fiscal year variant in order to enter an appropriate value.
- On the other hand, you can enter the periods for the reference data directly under Period from/to. The interval that you enter is not dependent on the period interval for the currently selected planning package.
- You specify whether the data to be used as reference data is actual data or data from the plan version for the planning package or from a different plan version that is yet to be specified.
- As the basis for valuation using ratios, you can enter characteristic values that differ from the characteristic values for the data to be valuated. For this, use the Transform characteristic values function.
- By making the appropriate setting, you specify, on the one hand, whether the planning method is to be executed in a test run or in an update run, or, on the other hand, whether this decision is to be postponed until the point of execution of the parameter set.
- You can jump to a background processing screen.
- In the Value fields tab page, you specify which specific value fields are to be changed.
