Material Requirements Planning: Alternative Items/Substitute Parts

Description

With release 3.0, you can define alternative items in the BOM. That is, you can define a group of materials that can be used alternatively. This is possible, if it is not important which of the materials is used - they can all be replaced by each other. Or if a group of substitute materials exists for a particular material and this information is to be saved in the BOM.

Steps to take

In the BOM that materials that are alternative items are grouped together.

There are two possibilitites for doing this:

1. The alternative items should be planned with specific usage probabilities. For this purpose, the usage probabilities of the individual alternative items are entered in the BOM.
In the planning run, the dependent requirements are corrected using the information from the usage probabilities.
Example:
Alternative item 1 Usage probability 60
Alternative item 2 Usage probability 30
Alternative item 3 Usage probability 10
The dependent requirements are for 100 pieces.
In this instance, 60 pieces of alternative 1 are required, 30 pieces of alternative 2 and 10 piecese of alternative 3.
2. The information that certain alternative items exist that can be used is saved for one material so that the system knows how to react if a missung parts situation occurs.
This material receives a usage probability of 100. The alternative items receive a usage probability of 0.
Thus, in the planning run the system created no dependent requirements for the alternative items. However, if a missing parts situation occurs for the main material, the employee responsible has information available on what parts can be used instead.

Various strategies can be predefined for the withdrawal posting of alternative items for the reservaqtion of the production order:
