Engineering Change Management:
Classification
Description
As of Release 3.0, you can classify change master records. In the
classification system, you describe change master records using
characteristics and group together similar change master records in classes
according to your own criteria. Via the characteristics of the class you can,
for example, define additional fields for a change master record.
The integration of the classification system provides you with the
following options for processing the change master record:
- You can assign values to characteristics and display these values while
maintaining the change master record.
- When you want to change or display a change master record, you need not
enter the exact change number. On the initial screen, you can select the
change number via the matchcode ID D - Find change number via
class.
- The find objects functionality of the
classification system is an efficient way of finding a change master
record.
Before you can classify change master records, the following requirements
must be met:
- A least one class type must be defined for change master records. In the
standard SAP System, class type 0025 - Change master record
is defined. You can create further class types according to your specific
requirements.
- In the classification system, at least one class must exist for the class
type.
This class should have characteristics. Characteristics with assigned values
are an essential search criterion for change master records. They reduce the
load on the system and help you to find the master record you require more
quickly.
- If you want to assign the class to a class group, the class group must be
defined in the IMG for "Classification".
You have two options for classifying a change master record:
1. You can allocate the change master
record to a class in the classification system.
2. You can classify the change master
record directly while you create or change a change master record.
To do this, choose the entry
Classification from the menu Extras .
Select a class type, then select one or more classes.
By double-clicking on a class, you can display it and assign values to its
characteristics.
Further notes
Before you can use the entire range of functions of the classification
system, you must set up your system accordingly. For information on setting up
a classification system, please refer to the IMG for
Classification.
