Testing the Data Transfer

Prerequisites

Ensure that Customizing is complete when the data is transferred. Changes to system settings may lead to errors in the data transfer, and therefore considerable manual post-processing.

Begin with only a few data records. If the transfer was executed successfully, you can then test the transfer with a larger amount of data.

Check the system resources (table size, database capacity) to avoid any unforeseen problems.

Procedure

  1. Convert the data from your legacy system using the conversion program and then generate a data transfer file.
  2. Start the Data Transfer Workbench.
  3. Check the conversion of the data by running a view control. Display the data transfer file and ensure that the data was transferred into the fields correctly, and that it was not incorrectly transferred to the transfer file, for example.
  4. Choose Goto ® Execute data transfer.

The data transfer is either executed in batch input or in direct input.

  1. Check the transfer object and, where necessary, make any corrections.
  2. Particularly in the case of errors, further steps to be taken depend on how the application-specific error processing and the error log are designed.
See the data transfer documentation specific to each application.

You can check whether the data transfer was successful in the following way:

Result

You have successfully tested the data transfer.
