Transportation Planning in Cooperation with the Forwarding Agent

Use

Synergy effects can result from the cooperation between the shipper and the forwarding agent that save both partners time and money. Particularly in business relationships where one forwarding agent works for a particular shipper, there are advantages that stem from joint transportation planning. The forwarding agent takes on the planning tasks in cooperation with the shipper, and thus simplifies transportation planning for the shipper. The entire planning process takes place in the Internet through Web transactions. The Internet function enables the forwarding agent to select and consolidate deliveries, and to specify data through an Easy Web transaction in transportation. The forwarding agent has access to the shipper's system through an Internet portal. In this way, he can save on the costs for EDI or software. The shipper can accept or reject the planned shipments of the forwarding agent at any time.

The same applies to the procurement scenario.

Effects on Customizing

The shipper retains control over the planning process since he can decide in the Implementation Guide which planning functions are passed to the forwarding agent, and which can be displayed or changed by the forwarding agent.
