Report Writer: Export to MS Excel

Description

For Release 3.0, you can export reports to Microsoft Excel by way of enhanced functionality. In addition to the actual report data, the format information and the totals levels are also exported.

The resulting Excel table has the same cell formats as the report in the R/3 System, including colors, underscoring and number formats.

An outline is automatically created from the totals levels. Totals can thus be expanded and summarized in rows and columns.

If a report consists of several blocks, each block is exported into a separate spreadsheet table. The system then creates a new block if the indicator 'Print heading' was set in the row definition of a report.

A report can also be output directly this way. Enter the output medium '4' to do so. In the Excel table, you can then use the following functions:

With these functions, Excel can function as alternative front end for the report output.

Software/hardware requirements

To be able to export reports to Excel, you must have:

Further notes

The formatted export technically functions as follows: A meta file containing the report, the formats and totals levels is first created. Excel is then started and imports this file.

With the installation of the SAP user interface, an import filter was installed for Excel, which interprets this meta file and creates an Excel table from it. The name of the export file must have the file extension '.RPW' so that Excel automatically uses this import filter when importing.
