Definiting Exceptions for Segment-Level Characteristics

Use

In Profitability Analysis, you determine the success of your company in different market segments (or profitability segments). Different market segments can be of varying degrees of significance for a company. For this reason, the level of detail required for an analysis can vary greatly from one market segment to the next.

From Release 4.6C, it is possible to define exceptions for segment-level characteristics. This enables you to specify, for example, that data relating to key customers is updated at the more detailed customer level, whereas data relating to other customers is summarized at the customer group level. The exceptions that you maintain should look something like this: "Characteristic A is hidden in the profitability segment if characteristic B takes characteristic X and characteristic C takes characteristic value Y".

The purpose of this function is to reduce the amount of profitability segments that are generated. This is achieved by only updating in detail values that are relevant for an analysis.

Note
This function is a technical function for reducing profitability segments. It is aimed at users with large data volumes so that they can use it to optimize performance. It should be used carefully and selectively because it is usually impossible to reverse its effect. If used incorrectly, it can produce undesired effects.

You maintain exceptions in Customizing for Profitability Analysis by choosing Structures -> Define Profitability Segment Characteristics (Segment-Lvl Characteristics) . This activity also contains more detailed information on this subject.
