You only need to work through this step if you intend to use the material and BOM functions of the AutoCAD-SAP interface. You do not need the "External Database" application for document management functions.

If you want to use the AutoCAD-SAP interface, you will need to install the "External Database" application. You will find this application on the AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop installation CDs.

• Insert the AutoCAD CD or the Mechanical Desktop installation CD in your CD-ROM drive, and start the installation program.
• This installation program will guide you through the steps for installing the components in question. All components that are not yet installed are selected.
• Select the component External DB, and follow the instructions issued by the installation program.
