Classification and Finding Objects
Scope of Functions
Classification
There is now one screen for allocating objects to classes and assigning
characteristic values to objects. After entering the allocation, you
can call value assignment by choosing a pushbutton or double-clicking.
The screen partitioning can be expanded or collapsed as required.
Characteristic Value Assignment has some enhanced and changed functions.
Enhanced/New functions:
- You can copy values to a buffer and insert them in the same
characteristics, in either the same class or in another class, in different transactions or sessions.
- You can define characteristics groups on tab pages and define a sequence of characteristics within a characteristics group.
- You can define display options for the value assignment screen by choosing Extras -> User settings
. For example, you can include additional columns for defining required characteristics or displaying the
DIN code letter.
- The Explanation pushbutton has been replaced by an Info
pushbutton. This tells you whether the value is a default value, was set by a user, or was set by a dependency.
- The menu path for changing the template for a characteristic after you have saved has changed. Now you choose
Values -> Propose template.
Finding Objects
Value assignment, the search result, and the overview tree of the class
hierarchy are now three sections of the same screen. The overview tree
is displayed automatically, and can be deactivated by choosing Extras -> User settings ->
Display class hierarchy.
You can select a class for finding objects from the overview tree.
You have the option of searching in the subordinate classes of the class with which you start the search.
Enhanced and new functions in the Search Result:
- You can define display variants for the result, and determine which
characteristics are displayed in the result. You can save a user-specific
display variant for the result. In class maintenance, you can define user-specific settings for display
variants and for sorting values by choosing Extras -> Settings for search result.
- You can save the result under a name you assign, and call it again later.
- You can display the previous search result by choosing a pushbutton.
- You can reselect values for finding objects. When you assign an
additional value, the result is adjusted accordingly. Reselection is
limited to the objects already displayed in the result. This improves
system performance for the search, because the search does not access the database.
- Multiple-value characteristics are shown in a different color and can be expanded as required.
- You can export the result to an office application.
- You can insert a pushbutton for calling reports or transactions that
you use frequently in the result. You specify the functions by choosing Environment -> Define function
or by defining a function list in Customizing.
Important
To ensure good response times for finding objects, you must execute the value statistics report program. To do this, choose
Environment -> Reorganization -> Create statistics.
The statistics are no longer class-specific. They are based on a client or class type.
