External Hierarchies on Characteristics

Description

In SAP-EIS, you can define hierarchical relationships for each characteristic used and be evaluated by the drill down. Per characteristic, you can store several different hierarchy variants.

You can maintain the hierarchies with a maintenance transaction or with a data transfer into EIS. The following conditions must be met:

1. A hierarchy is defined for a characteristic, that is, the characteristic values of a characteristic can be set into a hierarchical relationship.
2. Each characteristic value may occur only once in the hierarchy.
3. Not all possible characteristic values must occur in the hierarchy.
4. Each characteristic value of the hierarchy must be available as master data.
5. Several roots may exist.
6. Each characteristic value has one father at the most.

You can maintain the hierarchies in the SAP-EIS implementation guidelines via Master data -> Master data hierarchy. Here, you can carry out general editing functions such as Create, Change, Display, Copy and Delete on entire hierarchies as well as the hierarchy maintenance. To do this, you first have to enter the characteristic under which the hierarchy is defined and a valid hierarchy variant. If you did not maintain any hierarchy variants yet, you first have to do this via the function Master data -> Master data hierarchy -> Maintain variants in the application menu.

The data transfer in Customizing is to be executed with the function Data transfer -> Master data hierarchy which is described in the Implementation Guide.

Within the drill down, you can use the defined hierarchies to arrange the characteristic values in the report.
