developments in enterprise organization/standard hierarchy 
Use
In Release 4.6C, the following new features exist in maintenance of the enterprise organization/standard hierarchy:
Active/inactive master data
- Cost centers, profit centers, and business
processes can occur in
active and/or inactive versions . If you create a new master
record or change an existing one, the system first creates an
inactive version.
In order to avoid unnecessary interruptions in the enterprise organization, consistency checks are carried out only when the relevant cost centers, profit centers, or business processes are activated.
Recommendation
Trigger activation and checks after you have carried out all changes. In the enterprise organization user interface you can select several objects in the selection area and/or overview area.

- To prevent activation of undesired changes, you can delete inactive versions of cost centers, profit centers, or business processes. Inactive cost centers, profit centers, or business processes are neither transported nor replicated using ALE distribution.

You can only activate or delete inactive cost centers/business processes in the maintenance interface of the enterprise organization. You can only process active versions with individual/collective processing of cost centers and business processes. If an inactive version already exists for a cost center or business process, you cannot maintain it using individual/collective processing.

Time-dependency of cost center, profit center, or business process maintenance in the maintenance interface of the enterprise organization.
- The analysis period in which the cost centers,
profit centers, or business processes are processed corresponds to the preview
period that can be set individually in the maintenance interface of the
enterprise organization.
Example
You want to maintain cost centers for the year 2001. To do this, you set the preview period for the time interval from 01.01.2001 to 12.31.2001.
- In the detail area, you can change this analysis period for the individual objects again. In addition, you can change the validity period of the objects.
- In standard hierarchy
maintenance, the following preview period is set as default:
From 01.01 of the current year to 12.31.9999
In processing of the
enterprise organization the following preview period is set
as default:
From current date to exactly one year later.
From current date to exactly one year later.

Alternative profit center structure
You can now define a
hierarchy view for profit centers that runs parallel to the HR organizational
plan or to the cost center structure. This can be set for each controlling
area in Customizing.

Assignment overview in the enterprise organization
Because one cost
center or profit center can be assigned to differing HR organizational units
at different times, the assignment overview lists the HR organizational units
to which the relevant object was/is assigned at a particular
time.
Note
In the context of the alternative profit center structure you can assign more than one HR organizational unit to a profit center for the same key date. This is also the case from the assignment overview.

Changes in the user interface of the enterprise organization
- Processing functions are conveniently presented in a menu bar in the overview area.
- In the detail area you can now enter a description for cost center groups and profit center groups.
Use of Drag and Drop in the enterprise organization
- If you have assigned an HR organization unit
to a cost center using Drag and Drop , the profit center entered in
the master data of the cost center is compared with the profit center derived
from the enterprise organization and is changed in the master data of the cost
center if necessary.
In the same way, during assignment of a profit center to an HR organizational unit with Drag and Drop , the company code entered in master data is compared with the company code derived from the enterprise organization and changed if necessary in the master data of the profit center.
- During generation of cost
center/profit center standard hierarchy from the enterprise
organization the system checks whether the relevant master data
differs from the data of the enterprise organization and makes any necessary
changes in accordance with the data in the enterprise organization.
For cost centers this is the profit center determined.
