Archiving Application Data

Description

Archiving was completely revised for Release 3.0A. This includes the following important new funtionality:

The ADK is also available for inhouse developments. All archiving programs which can be called via the new Archive Administration were created using the ADK. This means that individual archiving objects can be archived in parallel to the online system.

If you generated archive files before Release 3.0A, you can copy administration data from the old Archive Administration into the new Archive Administration by running the program "RSARCH09". Please note that the names of some archiving objects have changed. The program "RSARCH09" includes the administration data under its new name.

System administration changes

The old Archive Administration (transaction F040) is completely replaced by the new Archive Administration (transaction SARA).

Change system parameters in customizing

Every archiving object can have parameters set individually via the new Archive Administration. You can make the following settings:

Changes to the interface

The user interface has been completely changed due to the replacement of the Archive Administration.

Changes in procedure

The handling of archiving has also changed because the archiving is made in several steps. However, you can control whether you need a change due to the automatic processes. The exact procedure for archiving depends on the archiving object. Please refer to the documentation on the individual archiving objects for an explanation of the exact procedure.

It can generally be said that an archiving consists of at least two steps. In the first step, archive files are generated without any data being removed from the database. In the second step, the archive files are read and the data is removed from the database. As already mentioned above, the process for each object can vary, and can consist of a maximum of four steps.

Further notes

The archiving is only accessible with the profiles S_ARCH_ALL, S_ARHC_ADMI, or S_ARCH_DISP. For processing the archive management list, you need the profile S_ARCH_ADMI, to read the archive management list and execute the read program, you need S_ARCH_DISP. C_ARCH_ALL gives you access to all functions of the archiving transaction SARA.
