WM: Blocking Logic in Warehouse Management

Description

At the warehouse number level, it is possible to configure the WM system so that several users can remove materials from the same storage bins simultaneously (in parallel). A high degree of parallel processing naturally requires additional tasks during transfer order processing; however, it has the direct result of producing a greater total throughput. In addition, the possibility for the system to process of the same materials simultaneously is also meaningful when transfer orders are created or confirmed from external systems either as a batch process or asynchronously. In these instances, waiting for the end of a transaction that is being carried out by another user is hardly feasible.

Prior to Release 3.0, when a transfer order was created to remove a particular material from a storage bin, the material was blocked in the entire warehouse. In addition, all storage bins in the transfer order were temporarily blocked. When you confirmed the transfer order, only the bins in the transfer order were blocked. However, if differences were found, the material was again blocked in the entire warehouse until the transfer order was completely processed and the confirmation was posted to the data base.

Change system parameters in customizing

There are 3 settings for Blocking Logic in the Control Data section of the "Warehouse Number" configuration screen for Warehouse Management:

Parallel stock placements can only be carried out using strategy "C" and "blank" when the capacity check is switched off and mixed storage is allowed (at the storage type level.

Define capacity check

Further notes

Important: You can only change the switch for blocking logic when no users are processing transfer orders - that is, when no one is creating or confirming transfer orders.
