Selecting Options for Inserting an Item Number

Menu path: SAP ® Bill of material tools ® Item Number

You can choose from the following options:

Option

What the option does

Select info point

The program expects an info point to be selected and "read". The information from the info point is stored in the item number.

Create copy

You use this option to create a copy of an item number. First, you select an existing item number. When you do this, an edit dialog box appears. You can make changes to data in this dialog box. This dialog box is not the DDATTE dialog box! You should not use the DDATTE function to make changes to attributes!

The software generates a copy of the item number selected. The new item number only has a new number – the rest of the data is derived from the item number block selected.

Create reference

You use this option to create a reference for an item number. First, you select an existing item number. The new item number has the same number and data as the item number block selected. A text with the item number is inserted – this text has a reference to the item number. The original and the reference form a unit. The connection between the two is not canceled until one is deleted. In order to delete such a reference, you must use the command Power Erase (in Genius only).

It makes sense to create a reference if the same part is to appear in different views of a drawing.

Create empty item number

You use this option to generate an item number that does not contain any information.

Select new drawing frame

You can only use this option if there are several drawing frames in the drawing, and if an AutoCAD/Genius drawing header is used. Select the drawing frame in which the item number is to be used.

Enter

If you press Enter, this terminates the function.

If you choose Replace with text, a descriptive text is inserted in the drawing instead of a number. This texts is generated by copying groups of attribute values. You can specify which attribute values should be copied in the AutoCAD system variables. In the standard AutoCAD software, the attributes 5genpos through 8genpos are copied together, and inserted. If you selected a format of a bubble divided into two parts, the variable determines what is written to the lower half of the bubble. The default setting for this is the value of attribute 26 (assembly number). If a value has not been defined for this attribute, the lower half of the bubble remains empty.

If, on the other hand, you choose the Suppress option, an info point is not inserted when you insert standard parts.

The following table shows what happens for the various options:

The default height is 5.0 mm for item numbers, and 3.5 mm for the text. If you want to change this setting, you will need to make changes to the variable BEMTXT (DIMTXT) of the dimension GEN-ISO-POS or GEN-ANSI-POS (for item numbers) and GEN-ISO or GEN-ANSI (for the descriptive text).
