Inventory Management: Returnable Transport Packaging from the Vendor

Description

As of Release 3.0, it is possible to manage returnable transport packaging (RTP) from a vendor.

Returnable transport packaging is a multi-trip packaging medium (for example, pallets or containers) in which goods can be transported more than once between vendors and customers.

Returnable transport packaging from the vendor which is located in the storage location is managed as special stock and is allocated to the respective vendor. It is the property of the vendor and does not therefore belong to the valuated stock.

Structure of special stock data

To manage the RTP stocks of a material from different vendors separately, special stock data are required in addition to material master data.

This special stock data (table MKOL) is defined for every vendor at the storage location level.

Special stock data is created automatically upon the first receipt into RTP stock. It cannot be maintained directly by the user, but is updated automatically for every goods movement (or physical inventory).

Which stocks exist?

The RTP stocks of the vendor are foreign stocks of the vendor. They are not valuated.

RTP stocks can only be freely usable. Stocks cannot be in quality inspection, nor can they be blocked.

Depending on the configuration, negative RTP stocks may be possible. Negative RTP stocks occur when an RTP quantity which has not been posted to the stock is returned to the vendor (goods issue posting before corresponding goods receipt posting).

Which goods movements are supported?

The following goods movements (each with reversal or return) are supported:

A description of how to enter these goods movements is given in the section "Changes in procedure".

Physical Inventory

The RTP stock is capable of inclusion in physical inventory.

Change system parameters in customizing

In Inventory Management Customizing, you specify whether negative RTP stocks are allowed in the plant.

You can find out more about this in the Implementation Guide for Inventory Management, under: Transactions -> Goods issue/transfer posting -> Negative stocks.
