In an offline backup ( backup_type = offline_split ) the database is shut down for the splitting of the mirror disks. All the following steps (step 5 optionally) are carried out under control of BRBACKUP.

Offline backup in the split mirror disks configuration contains the following steps:

1. Start BRBACKUP on the backup host.
2. Shutdown of the database on the productive host, in order to guarantee the consistency of the database for an offline backup.
3. Splitting of the mirror disks and linking to the backup host (parameter split_cmd ).
4. Start the database. It is then available for the R/3 System again.
5. Offline backup of the mirror disks on the backup host.
6. Synchronization of the mirror disks with the originals ( resync_cmd ). The resynchronization process requires no CPU on the productive machine if, for example, you use an EMC disk system.
