BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE use a common initialization profile init<DBSID>.sap (usually in directory <ORACLE_HOME>/dbs ) to find the required parameters. This file has TEXT format and can be edited with any system editor.

Before you use one of the SAP utilities, find out exactly which parameters you have to configure. Pay particular attention to parameters without default values and parameters that have device-specific information or require special platform-specific commands.

If you do not make any changes, the present default values for the parameters will be accepted. Many of these parameters can also be overridden by using a command option ( Effects of the Command Options). See Effects of the Command Options and Command Options for BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE.

Changes to parameter values do not take effect until you call the corresponding utility.
