The SAP utilities BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE provide an interface that can be used to access external backup programs.

This interface can only be used if the BACKINT interface program is provided by the supplier of the external backup program.

If you use this interface, tasks are distributed as follows:

• BRBACKUP/BRARCHIVE take care of the database handling.
• The external backup program is responsible for managing backup media.
• BRBACKUP/BRARCHIVE use BACKINT to pass a backup request on to the external backup program. This request represents a list of the files for backup. BRRESTORE also uses BACKINT to trigger the external program to restore the requested files.
  Any parameters that are passed on are contained in a parameter file you define. The external backup program performs all the backup operations.
• BRBACKUP/BRARCHIVE/BRRESTORE evaluate the confirmation messages of the external backup program.
