BRCONNECT and BRTOOLS

Prerequisites

BRTOOLS and BRCONNECT are utility programs that are not started by the user; instead they are started internally by BRBACKUP and BRARCHIVE.

Using BRCONNECT (Control Database Status)

BRBACKUP starts the SAP utility program BRCONNECT during the backup to see if the status of the database corresponds to the backup mode. If the database is not already open, BRBACKUP always starts it. If you select backup mode online ( backup_type = online ), the database remains in this state during the backup. If you select backup mode offline ( backup_type = offline or backup_type = offline_force ), the database is shut down and remains in the closed state during the backup. If an error occurs, BRCONNECT terminates the backup and displays the messages BR312E or BR313E. After the backup, the database is always restored to its original status. This means that the database is left started, if it was running before the backup, or it is shut down, if it was shut down before the backup.

Using BRTOOLS

The SAP utility program BRTOOLS is used for:

backup verification: the saved files are compared with their originals.

the option -c force : This denies the subroutines that are started (such as cpio) access to the console.
