Although SAPDBA recovery functions can in most cases be used to recover a failed database, there are exceptions to this. Therefore, this chapter contains a description of several general procedures for recovering the ORACLE database system.

It provides assistance for database recovery after an error in one of the database components:

• Data files

• Online redo log files

• Control files

Please note that an incorrectly performed recovery may lead to irreparable loss of data in your database. You bear the sole responsibility for any damage caused to the database by an incorrect recovery. Please avoid such situations by talking to an experienced co-worker, your SAP consultant, or an ORACLE specialist before starting a recovery.
