Restoring the Backup Files

Select the menu item Restore backup files.

Restoring will overwrite any existing database files, since files are restored at their original location.

At this point, the restore option is only implemented in connection with a recovery situation. The individual restoring of old data files, tablespaces or full backups for other reasons is supported by the SAPDBA menu item Restore/Recovery.

The first menu item can be used to change the restore parameters; see Changing the Restore Parameters. This is not usually necessary, however, since the parameters are determined based on the backup logs.

Start Restore of Backup Files

During a restore, backups are physically restored with the SAP utility BRRESTORE. If space problems occur during a restore of data files, you will have to use operating system utilities to provide the required space.

Select Start restore of backup files.

SAPDBA checks whether the files which are to be restored are still available. If they are, an error message is displayed and you must confirm that SAPDBA may overwrite these files. If you do not allow SAPDBA to overwrite the files and the restore process is terminated at this point.

SAPDBA checks whether there is a backup file for each data file that was lost. If a backup file is missing, the restore process is terminated at this point.

SAPDBA displays the restore parameters. Verify the correctness of the specifications. You can change the restore parameters using the option Specify restore parameters (see Changing the Restore Parameters) and then restart the restore process for the backup files.

The SAP utility BRRESTORE is started in order to restore the files. Once the backup files have been successfully restored, the function Restore backup files is assigned Status finished.
