Use
You use the bill of material usage to define for what purpose a bill of material can be used (for example, in production, sales and maintenance).
You have the following options for doing this:
The item status specifies the usages for which a certain bill of material (BOM) item is relevant.

The following table shows how you can define the item status for bill of material usage "maintenance":
Item relevant for: |
Processing |
Production |
Not authorized (Status: inactive) |
Engineering |
Not authorized (Status: inactive) |
Maintenance |
Obligatory (Status: active) |
Sales |
Not authorized (Status: inactive) |
Costing |
Optional (Status: modifiable) |
The system uses the bill of material application to select BOMs. The BOM application controls the sequence in which BOMs with different usages are displayed.
The bill of material usage determines which item statuses you can change. The remaining item statuses are automatically inactive and cannot be changed.

There are two BOMs for material XYZ, one for production and one for maintenance.
Using the BOM application you can define that the maintenance BOM has priority 1, so that in the maintenance system (for example, when displaying the structure) the maintenance BOM is automatically displayed by the system. If there is no maintenance BOM, the system will display the production BOM which in this case has priority 2.
