Define
Attributes of System Messages
In Inventory Management, the system issues
messages in the course of transactions to inform the user about certain system
responses or data situations (for example, a message indicating that the order
item is flagged "delivery completed").
In this step, you can define for the type of
system message for a version:
A version (for example, ZZ) is
maintained as parameter ID MSV in the user master
record, thus representing a user or a user group.
Default
Settings
- All messages that can be controlled are stored
in version 00.
- For Inventory Management, the application area
M7 is predefined.
SAP
Recommendation
We recommend that you do not change the output
types (for example, W for warning message) in version 00, but
that you define your own versions (for example, ZZ ) for
changing the message type.
Caution
Messages M7 021 and M7 022 can only be used for
the following cases:
- Goods movement with reference to a
reservation:
If more than the reserved quantity is withdrawn, you can have either a warning
message or an error message issued.
- Negative stock allowed:
If the stock balance becomes negative due to a withdrawal of goods, the system
can issue a warning or an error message. If no negative stock is allowed, the
system always issues an error message.
Note
If you work with goods-receipt-based Invoice
Verification, you can configure whether you want to receive an error message
or warning message if the invoice quantity is different from the corresponding
goods receipt quantity. You configure this for the following messages in the
step Define Attributes of System Messages in Customizing for
Invoice Verification
- M8
081 (Invoice quantity is greater than goods receipt
quantity)
- M8
194 (Invoice quantity is less than goods receipt
quantity)
Activities
Proceed as follows to control messages
according to your needs:
1. Copy the
messages (for which you would like to change the type) into a separate version
(for example, ZZ ).
2. Change the
type of these messages in the new version.
3. Allocate the
corresponding version to the users as follows: Define a value (for example,
ZZ ) for the parameter ID MSV in the user
master record by selecting Goto ->
Parameters.
Notes on
transport connection
The features of the system messages are
included in the automatic recording of changes.
No transport is supported for user
maintenance.
Additional
Information
- If no parameter ID MSV is defined for a given
user, the system uses version 00.
- If no entry exists in the table for a certain
version, the system issues the message as a warning.
- If a certain type does not make sense for a
version, the system uses the type from version 00 in your standard setting
(usually a warning message).
