In the following, only creating completely new objects is described. We recommend that you use Templates as described below. For information on how to create WBS elements and activities using templates, see Creating Project Objects by Copying.

Procedure

There are several ways of creating new project objects in the Project Builder:

Using Drag & Drop

  1. In the Templates screen area, select the project object to create (for instance WBS element, activity (external), or milestone) in the Individual objects group.
  2. To create a new project or network, drag and drop the template Project definition or Network to an empty structure tree. If you have already opened a project in the structure tree, drag the new project object to the required position in the structure tree. If it is possible to assign the new object to an object in the structure tree, a plus sign appears besides the mouse cursor.

Using double-click

In the Individual objects group of the Templates screen area, double-click on the new project object to be created.

Using the context menu

It is possible to create new project objects using the context menu either in the structure tree or in the Templates screen area.

  1. In the Templates screen area, select the project object to create (for instance WBS element, activity (external), or milestone) in the Individual objects group, or select the object to which the new object is to be assigned in the structure tree.
  1. In the context menu choose Create.

Using the toolbar

  1. Choose .
  2. The system opens a list box and displays the project objects that you can create for the object selected in the structure tree. If you have not yet opened a project, you can create a new project or a network.

  3. Click in the list box on the project object that you want to create.

Result

In the work area, the system opens the detail screen for the newly created project object. Here you can enter the necessary project data. After you have saved the data, the project object appears in the structure tree.

If you create a project object within an existing project structure, the new object is always subordinate to the object selected in the structure tree.

You can also create several objects, one after another, without having to enter the details for each object or save. In this case, the system uses the pre-defined settings and the new objects appear in the structure without you saving.
