Shift Definition and Shift Sequence

In Customizing for Resources under Define Shift Sequence, you can create shift definitions and shift sequences for all resources you use in available capacity maintenance.

Shift Definitions

In a shift definition you define the start, finish and break times in a shift for all resources.

Shift definitions simplify the process of making adjustments to available capacity. For example, if the working hours in a shop floor area change, you do not need to change the available capacity in all of the resources involved when using shift definitions. You only have to adjust the corresponding shift definitions. By doing this, all available capacities that refer to the shift definition are automatically changed.

Shift Sequences

The typical succession of shift definitions for a certain period of time is defined in a shift sequence for all resources (see the following graphic). You can access these predefined shift sequences when maintaining the available capacity in the resource. Just as with the shift definition, this reduces the effort involved in defining available capacity considerably.
